A 50-year fight against poverty

A film about Father Joseph Wresinski, Founder of the ATD Fourth World Movement.

The story of Joseph Wresinski begins in the 1950-1960’s in the slum of Noisy-le-Grand, in the Paris area.

Nicknamed “the rabble’s priest” at that time, he started his fight against poverty with the families of the slum and conducted humanitarian and political activities all his life. He created the ATD Quart-Monde (Fourth World) Movement, which today includes thousands of poor people, friends and volunteers in all four continents.

This story is related by Bernard Jahrling, Martine Le Corre and Muriel Scribot. All three have known, worked with and followed Father Joseph. All three have experienced abject poverty. They tell us how they overcame exclusion and how this experience allowed them to take control of their lives and become full citizens.

The film recounts Joseph’s 30 years of activism and the years which followed his death, during which the ATD Fourth World Movement did not stop helping poor families all around the world.
