Exclusion as a challenge to democracy
The actuality of Joseph Wresinski’s thought

An international conference will mark both the 20th anniversary of the death of Joseph Wresinski (1917-1988) and the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

A conference to be held December 17-19, 2008, in Paris

The International Movement ATD Fourth World is organizing, in close partnership with Sciences Po, a conference on the relevance of the thinking of its founder, Father Joseph Wresinski, and of the project that he promoted for society.

The conference will take place at Sciences Po, in the center of Paris and is likely to gather 300 participants.

Objectifs of the conference

- to allow academics and other thinkers to discuss different aspects of Joseph Wresinski’s ideas and actions and to disseminate the results of this process

- to open a dialogue between researchers and the people involved in the fight against chronic poverty: people living in poverty and those committed alongside them, public and private leaders...

- to highlight the modernity of Joseph Wresinski’s thoughts and practices and the relevance of the “culture of refusing extreme poverty” which he strove to advocate

“The change required is to fully assume the dignity of the poor, to take their thinking as a reference point for all policies, and their hopes as a reference point for all action.” Joseph Wresinski
