Joseph Wresinski: Schools need to reach the streets. Teachers need to come meet the children where they are \u2013 in the inner cities,\u00a0 in their neighborhoods. Meet, but don\u2019t just meet, become friends with their parents. Become friends with\u00a0 the older generation, with the children, with their world. At that moment, that\u2019s\u00a0 when the school will also become home for the children, it will become once more
\nthe children\u2019s kingdom.<\/p>\n

Interviewer But, that isn\u2019t just a problem for teachers, is it ?<\/p>\n

Wresinski: This isn\u2019t just a problem for teachers,\u00a0 it\u2019s a problem for the whole country. It\u2019s just that, it\u2019s a\u2026 I would say,\u00a0 we need a political consensus. We need the political will so\u00a0 that the French people, because we\u2019re talking about France here\u00a0 but it\u2019s also true for other countries that the French people decide\u00a0 once and for all that in ten years in this country there won\u2019t be\u00a0 a single child who finishes school not knowing\u00a0 how to read and write. That in ten years young people who go\u00a0 to school will be able to learn a real trade.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
